Minister of Agriculture of Latvia with the EU counterparts in Brussels will discuss the impact of Russia's war in Ukraine on the global agricultural market

On Monday, 26 September, Minister of Agriculture of Latvia Kaspars Gerhards will take part in Agriculture and Fisheries Council of the European Union (EU) in Brussels (Belgium). During the meeting, Ministers will discuss the impact of the Russian war in Ukraine on agricultural production and logistics in Ukraine, as well as the wider implications of the situation for the EU agricultural market.

Member States will discuss the current situation on the agricultural market, with a particular focus on cereals - harvest forecasts and the impact of this year's weather. Ministers will also discuss the situation in other agricultural production sectors in order to get an overview of the agricultural market as a whole and food security in the EU. The functioning and further improvement of the EU-Ukraine Solidarity Lanes is also to be discussed with the aim to stabilise the food market and global food security.

In order to discuss EU-level requirements for Member States on the maintenance and restoration of permanent grasslands and their impact on food production, there is planned meeting of Ministers of Agriculture of the three Baltic states and the EU Commissioner of Agriculture and Rural Development, Janusz Wojciechowski.
