A 6-month-old baby is in critical condition tonight at Driscoll Children's Hospital in Corpus Christi, Texas. U.S. Border Patrol agents encountered the child with her father as part of a group of 21 people apprehended three miles west of Roma Port of Entry Thursday at 1:30 a.m., CDT, after they illegally crossed the Rio Grande into the United States. Agents transported the father and his daughter together to the Rio Grande Valley Sector's Central Processing Center. At 9:20 a.m., medical staff at the Processing Center assessed that the child needed medical care and should be treated at a hospital.
CBP officers transported the father and his daughter together at 9:40 a.m., to Edinburg Regional Children's Hospital in Edinburg, Texas. Medical authorities then transported the child via medivac helicopter to Driscoll Children's Hospital in Corpus Christi, Texas. Since there was no more space in the helicopter, CBP officers drove the child's father to the hospital to be with his daughter where she continues to receive medical care.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the young girl and her father during this difficult time.
