State councilor calls emergency meeting for flood control efforts in Henan

State Councilor Wang Yong held an emergency meeting with the State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters on the morning of July 21, calling for all-out efforts in flood prevention, relief and rescue work to ensure the safety of people's lives and property and minimize loss in Central China's Henan province.

All persons in charge and emergency rescue teams should dedicate themselves to rescue and relief work, call in professional rescue forces, materials, and equipment, conduct thorough search, and rescue work, and relocate and resettle the flood victims, Wang stressed.

Wang stressed close attention to reservoirs and dams with potential hazards, and called for strengthened emergency disaster relief measures and more frequent patrols to deter serious accidents, and facilitate a safe flooding season for the Yellow River dike and all reservoirs.

Departments concerned should fulfill multiple tasks, including mobilizing communities, villages, towns, enterprises, and institutions, dividing the flood-stricken area into sections for sound responsibility implementation, rigidly enforcing flood-prevention contingency plans, intensifying drainage and hazard avoidance work, tightening security control in key industries such as transportation and hazardous chemical substance, and maintaining an alert system for extreme weather such as typhoons and rainstorms, and following secondary disasters like torrential floods and mudslides.
