ALEXANDRIA, La. - LSU-Alexandria held Dakota State (S.D.) to three total hits Thursday afternoon for a non-conference baseball doubleheader sweep at Generals Field. The Generals shut down the Trojans by the scores of 13-0 and 16-0.
Dakota State fell to 0-8 overall record and went 0-6 record on their Louisiana trip. LSU-Alexandria, a member of the Red River Athletic Conference, improved to 5-13 overall record.
DSU returns back to the Midwest area Wednesday afternoon. The Trojans remain on the road as they visit Morningside (Iowa) in a doubleheader at 2 p.m.
Game 1 - LSU-Alexandria 13, Dakota State (S.D.) 0 - FINAL
Brady Fryou opened up with a 2-RBI single for LSU-Alexandria 2-0 lead in the bottom first inning. The Generals also added three runs to extend their lead to 5-0 in the second inning, highlighted by Blake Garrett's 2-RBI single.
LSU-A exploded for five runs in the fifth frame and three runs in the sixth inning to complete their final score.
Jordan Hofer and Marcos Alvarez each had a single for the Trojans.
Zach Hebert had a home run, double and drove in two runs for the Generals. Fryou added two hits and three RBIs. Thane Lancios tallied two hits and two RBIs. Eight different LSU-A players recorded a stolen base (Hebert swiped two bases).
LSU-Alexandria outhit Dakota State 15-2 in the game.
Bailey Belisario (L, 0-1) recorded the loss after working the first inning, giving up two runs on one hit for the Trojans. Tyler Stading, Trey Randel, Trae Ramsey and Christian Sanchez worked in relief.
Clayton Doyle (W, 2-0) pitched a complete game victory for the Generals. He struck out 11 Trojans' batters and allowed two hits in the game.
Game 2 - LSU-Alexandria 16, Dakota State (S.D.) 0 - FINAL
Dakota State was held to one hit in the second game of the doubleheader as LSU-Alexandria secured the victory.
The Generals racked up five runs in the first inning and never looked back. LSU-A scored two times in the third, one in fourth and eight times in the fifth inning.
Smith Kemper had a double for Dakota State.
Seth Patin went 4-of-4 at the plate with three RBIs for LSU-Alexandria. Hebert, Drew Brown and Ben Bayless each had two hits. The Generals registered 11 stolen bases in the game.
LSU-A pound out 13 hits in the game. DSU committed six defensive errors.
Micah DeHarty (L, 0-1) took the loss after tossing 3 2/3 innings on the pitching mound for Dakota State. Jacob Yaeger, Kyle Grant, Mitchell Biever and Andrew Dayton also pitched in relief.
Brian Metoyer started the game and worked for 1 1/3 innings for LSU-Alexandria. Mitchell Gardiner (W, 1-0) earned the win after pitching 4 2/3 innings, recording six strikeouts. Kane Bass pitched the seventh inning, giving up a hit.
