Comprehensive Land Use Planning process is underway!

The Village of Howard is working with MSA Professional Services to update the village's existing Comprehensive Land Use Plan. Residents and other interested parties are invited to give feedback before the Village Board formally adopts the document.

The Comprehensive Plan identifies future growth projections and provides a guide for public and private development. In accordance with State Statutes, it provides the legal basis for the village's authority to regulate land use and development and will be used by village officials when revising and administering zoning and development ordinances. The plan is revised roughly every 10 years, and the existing plan was last updated in April 2012.

The newest draft Comprehensive Land Use Plan considers Census data, results of the Fall 2021 Village of Howard Community Survey, and stakeholder interviews to identify strengths, opportunities, and concerns as the village faces an expected population growth of an estimated 10,000 new residents within the next few years. You can view the draft Comprehensive Land Use Plan here.
