Culture plays an essential role in the construction of a more inclusive and healthy society, being an important way to promote citizenship.

Investing in this field generates social and economic movement, besides expanding the perception of an organization's value. By designing initiatives focused on culture, a company increases its local participation, moves the economy, preserves traditional professions, and strengthens the social role, boosting positive indicators.

Corporations have, effectively, the power to transform a society with investments and actions that stimulate its development. At Neoenergia, we recognize the contribution of culture as a transforming agent in society and as an essential element to preserve identity. We value historic and artistic heritage through projects such as our Cultural Lighting Program (Programa de Iluminação Cultural, in Portuguese). We also encourage other projects with public notices, such as Transforming Energy into Culture (Transformando Energia em Cultura, in Portuguese), to promote Brazil's rich diversity. In the last four years alone, we have invested more than R$ 160 million in incentive resources in art and culture, with more than R$ 600 thousand in own resources.

We value projects aimed at capacity building and that stimulate cultural entrepreneurship. Last year, the Neoenergia Institute, in partnership with the Ekloos Institute, expanded the training to socio-cultural managers in a knowledge caravan in the states of Rio Grande do Norte, Bahia, and Pernambuco.

The private initiative can contribute a lot to this cultural preservation movement, which has been gaining more space and appreciation in the Country. It is necessary to practice citizenship and optimize the use of taxes to generate a positive social impact, always in search of building the future we want for all of us. The world is changing every day and it is essential to be part and protagonists of this change in different aspects: energy transition, economic growth, social development, and in all the fronts in which we operate.

A little more than a month ago, we entered into a partnership of extreme relevance for society, with BNDES (Brazilian Development Bank) and other large companies, focused on restoration projects of historical heritage, carried out from a national public call. The project, called Rescuing History, (Resgatando a História, in Portuguese) is adherent to the Art and Culture pillar of our Neoenergia Institute, and foresees collective financing with the presence of organizations. BNDES, in turn, can double or triple the amount chosen by each partner, depending on the location of its realization. The Northeast, a region where Neoenergia has a strong presence, is considered strategic, and every investment will be tripled in any of its states.

Following our strategy, this and the other partnerships established to promote the economic and cultural development of the places where we operate are in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Agreed upon in the Global Compact, the SDGs are aimed at sustainable cities and communities, no poverty, quality education, decent work and economic growth.

The path we have followed allows us to seek new directions in pursuit of the goals we have set. We understand that our role goes far beyond our business: to generate, transmit, distribute, and trade the best energy; that is why we also believe in the power of economic and social development and in the reduction of inequalities by investing in culture. This more sustainable model is in our purpose. We believe it is possible to combine profitability with added value for everyone.

This plan is also in line with Iberdrola, our parent company, which invests in and promotes culture in all the countries where it operates. Globally, we are a Group engaged and committed to the promotion and support of new forms of artistic expression and the rescue of historical heritage. In Brazil, Neoenergia follows these steps and encourages the awareness of all the agents that integrate the productive chain in our country. We want to be the force that drives the necessary change for the challenging scenario that society still faces. Knowing our power to create social and cultural responsibility projects motivates us to continue with this purpose.

Inclusion, likewise, is in our goal. To this end, we are constantly reviewing the Human Resources processes in the company, working in recruitment and selection to make selection processes more inclusive, training leaders for diversity management, and encouraging actions to empower and fight prejudice inside and outside the company. We seek to support the construction of a fairer country that values culture.
