Rep. Gallego, Mayor Gallego Announce New Terminal Funding for Sky Harbor

$36 million in funding comes from the FAA's Airport Terminal Program, made possible thanks to the Gallego-passed Bipartisan Infrastructure Law

PHOENIX - Today, Rep. Ruben Gallego (AZ-03), Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego, and Sky Harbor's Aviation Director Chad Makovsky held a press conference announcing $36,000,000 secured for Sky Harbor from the Federal Aviation Administration's Airport Terminal Program.

"I was proud to help pass the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law in the House. The investments from the historic law are coming home to Arizona, and it's because of these investments that Phoenix has become one of America's greatest cities," said Rep. Ruben Gallego. "Sky Harbor's growth and improvement reflects that of the entire Valley-and of our entire state. I'm proud to join Mayor Kate Gallego and the leadership from Sky Harbor to announce these dollars. I look forward to doing more to create more economic opportunities here in the Valley and ensure Arizona remains affordable for families for generations to come."

"Our beloved Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport is experiencing record growth, frequently adding new destinations and earning national accolades," Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego said. "Our city is attracting these exciting opportunities because of our efforts to constantly improve the front door to our state. Those efforts couldn't be possible without Congressional support for landmark legislation like the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law that's enabling us to act on our ambitious goals and deliver for residents and visitors alike."

"Phoenix Sky Harbor is the gateway to Arizona, and it is as busy as it has ever been," said Aviation Director Chad Makovsky. "We saw record passenger levels last year and continue to see high levels of passenger traffic. As a result, our facilities are busy. Even though our team works to deliver an extraordinary passenger experience, our terminals are aging and enhancements are needed to keep up with passenger demand and expectations to be leaders in sustainability and good stewards of our environment. Thanks to the federal support we've received, we are able to take a big step forward in advancing those goals."

The $36,000,000 in funding will go toward terminal upgrades to enhance the traveler experience, including replacing chillers, condensing water pumps, central plant piping, heat exchangers, and cooling towers, as part of the upgrade of the Central Utility Plant.

The Airport Terminal Program was funded thanks to the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which Rep. Gallego helped pass.

Since the law's passage, Sky Harbor has received more than $15 million in funding to improve the airport and foster a more enjoyable experience for visitors and travelers. Overall, Arizona has received $7.4 billion in funding from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which includes investments to widen the I-10, securing Arizona's water future, and bolstering the state's ports of entry.
