Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav’ Celebrations Ship Visit and Community Outreach Programme at Alappuzha, Kerala

As part of celebrations to commemorate 75th anniversary of India's Independence Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav , INS Sharda, visited Alappuzha on 24 June 2022. The ship undertook illumination off Alappuzha Beach. A team from NOIC Kerala also visited Valiazheekal Harbour for the Community Outreach Programme with fishermen. The visit by Indian Navy ship, officers and sailors is part of a series of planned visits to various ports to promote awareness on coastal security, India's freedom struggle and instil a sense of pride amongst the local populace. The fishermen were briefed regarding their role as 'the eyes and ears' of security agencies as part of the Coastal Security construct. The interaction conveyed key aspects of safety precautions to be taken at sea and SAR. The active participation by fishermen and local administration during the interaction was indicative of the enthusiasm and involvement amongst the coastal populace. The interaction was well received and the efforts by the Indian Navy to improve the relations with the coastal populace and fishermen folk was appreciated by all stakeholders. The event was also attended by members of the District Administration, Coastal Police and Fisheries Department.
