GoPro Quik App Gets High-Performance Video Support GoPro Quik App Gets High-Performance Video Support

Sep 23, 2021

HERO10 Black just launched with a maximum resolution of 5.3K, so it's only fitting that the GoPro Quik App gets an update, too! Version 10.1 launched earlier this week on both iOS and Android to expand high-performance video support.

This means that 5.3K, 5K and 4K 4:3 video will be easier to preview, edit, and share to Mural within Quik. And, most importantly, these high-performance videos will now play nice when creating video edits in the app. With v10.1, you can now include these videos, in all their ultra-high-res glory, alongside the rest of your photos and videos.

What qualifies as high-performance video?

  • 5.3K 60fps | 50fps
  • 5.3K 30fps | 25fps
  • 5.3K 24fps
  • 5K 4:3 30fps | 25fps
  • 5K 4:3 24fps
  • 4K 4:3 60fps | 50fps
  • 4K 4:3 30fps | 25fps
  • 4K 4:3 24fps

Because these high-performance resolutions push the boundaries of what's possible, even on the newest mobile phones, some devices may still struggle to playback or edit smoothly. But, in order to make the most of your high-performance footage in Quik, we recommend the following system requirements:

iOS

High-performance videos are compatible with most iOS devices with A12 chips and newer, with 3GB RAM or more (iPhone XS and newer).

Android

High-performance videos are generally compatible with top-end Android devices running Android 10 or newer and 4GB RAM or more. While specific device implementations vary from one manufacturer to another, recommended device chipsets include:

  • Kirin 9000 and newer
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 and newer
  • Exynos 9820 and newer

Keep in mind that, particularly on Android, other factors present on the device can affect performance, even when recommended hardware requirements are met.

Additionally, if your mobile device is struggling with high-performance video playback, you can try using the GoPro Player desktop app, by downloading it here.
