GOVERNOR CUOMO ANNOUNCES START OF $19.5 MILLION PAVEMENT REHABILITATION PROJECT ON I-90 EASTBOUND IN CHAUTAUQUA COUNTY

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced the start of a $19.5 million pavement rehabilitation project on the New York State Thruway (I-90) eastbound in Chautauqua County. The work is taking place on a 13-mile stretch from the Pennsylvania state line to just beyond exit 60 at milepost 483.

'As we continue to build back better and enhance our infrastructure, these improvements on I-90 will lead to even safer travel and support commerce and economic growth in Western New York,' Governor Cuomo said. 'Upgrades like these in Chautauqua County and across New York are fueling our economic comeback from the pandemic in the short term, while helping ensure we have the necessary infrastructure to meet the long term demands of a twenty-first-century economy.'

'This pavement improvement project continues the Thruway Authority's commitment to provide a safe and reliable roadway for the thousands of motorists who travel on this stretch every day,' Thruway Authority Executive Director Matthew J. Driscoll said. 'We continue to reinvest our toll revenue in infrastructure projects to enhance the transportation system and improve the driving experience for motorists.'

The project includes full depth pavement rehabilitation and reconstruction of the eastbound lanes including exit 61 (Ripley-Shortman Road) and exit 60 (Westfield - Mayville - NY Route 394) and associated ramps with each. Additional work includes safety improvements such as more reflective line striping for increased safety, extensive guide rail replacement, drainage improvements and signage.

Oakgrove Construction, Inc. is the contractor for the project. Work is expected to be complete in Spring 2022.

The project was designed to align with Governor Cuomo's Drivers First Initiative to ensure construction will have the least possible impact on motorists.

Motoristsmayencounter lane closureson the Thruway along with traffic shifts andstoppages while construction is underway.

Motorists are urged to be alert and follow the posted work zone speed limits. Motorists are reminded that fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone. In accordance with the Work Zone Safety Act of 2005, convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of an individual's driver license.
