Cleaning of tunnel means partial overnight closures for drivers

ST. LOUIS, MO (September 20, 2021): Beginning Monday evening September 20, portions of the Lindbergh Tunnel will be closed for annual cleaning. This required cleaning will take place over four nights. From Monday night September 20, through the morning of Wednesday, September 22, the northbound lanes of the tunnel will be closed. Starting on Wednesday night September 22 and ending Friday morning September 24, the southbound lanes will be closed. If an additional day is needed for any uncompleted or delayed work, the night of Friday, September 24, has been selected as a contingency workday (see the schedule listed below).

Each night at 7:30 p.m. safety crews will begin setting up for the lane closures. The required work will take place Monday through Thursday from 8:00 p.m. until 5:00 a.m. the next morning. The maintenance work must be performed in empty tunnel cells. During this time, the tunnel's digital message boards will relay the current outages to drivers using this specific roadway.
