As part of the joint strategic exercise (JSE) of the armed forces of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus Zapad-2021, a multi-level intelligence system was created in the Nizhny Novgorod region. It was prepared by specialists of the units of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) of the Western Military District (WMD).
The air grouping of the UAV Orlan-10, Tachyon, Outpost allows to continuously conduct aerial reconnaissance. Operating in conjunction with the Strelec intelligence and communications complex, equipped with the GLONASS satellite navigation system, unmanned aerial vehicles effectively provide identification of detected objects, calculation of their coordinates, target designation.
The Strelec complex allows mobile intelligence elements equipped with a friend-foe identification system to be interfaced with all domestic reconnaissance means, radars and aiming devices.
The optical-electronic complex Irony operates at the tactical level. Its use allows to conduct visual reconnaissance around the clock and in any weather and transmit coordinates to fire means for the destruction of weapons, military equipment and objects of a mock enemy.
The JSE of the armed forces of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus takes place every two years in accordance with the decision taken by the heads of the two states.
The Zapad-2021 exercise is the final stage of joint training of the armed forces of the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation this year.
Practical actions of the troops (forces) will be held in the period from September 10 to 16 at nine training grounds located on the territory of the Russian Federation, in the Baltic Sea, as well as at five training grounds of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Belarus.
In total, up to 200 thousand military personnel will take part in the JSE Zapad-2021 on the territory of Russia and Belarus, about 80 aircraft and helicopters, up to 760 units of military equipment, including 290 tanks, 240 guns, multiple rocket launchers and mortars, as well as up to 15 ships will be involved.
The maximum number of personnel involved in the exercise of military units subject to the Vienna Document of 2011 on Confidence-and Security-building measures on the territory of the Russian Federation will not exceed 6.4 thousand military personnel.
The return of the military authorities and troops to the points of permanent deployment after participating in the exercise is planned until mid-October.
