EFTA and SACU continue update of free trade agreement

Convening in Kasane, Botswana from 4 to 7 March 2019, delegations from the Member States of EFTA and the Southern African Customs Union (SACU) made further progress towards modernisation and development of their free trade agreement.

The SACU delegation was headed by Emily Mpahlele, Director in the Ministry of Trade and Industry, South Africa, while Lars Erik Nordgaard, Senior Adviser at the Norwegian Ministry of Trade, Industry and Fisheries acted as the EFTA spokesperson.

The fourth review meeting allowed negotiators on trade in goods and customs issues to build on the progress achieved in intersessional activities and to advance further on substantial and technical issues. Detailed follow-ups for all the areas covered by the update will be carried out before the sides meet again for the fifth review meeting, expected to take place in mid-2019.
