Deputy Chief Stephen Hrytzik to be named Interim Chief of Police
(POWELL, Ohio)-May 2, 2019-Deputy Chief of Police Stephen Hrytzik will be sworn in as the Interim Chief of Police immediately upon the retirement of Chief Gary Vest.
Chief Vest will retire on Friday, May 10 after 23 years as the Chief of Police with the Powell Police Department.
'Deputy Chief Hrytzik's experience makes him uniquely qualified to serve as the interim Chief,' said City Manager Steve Lutz. 'I look forward to having Deputy Chief Hrytzik serve in this role.'
Deputy Chief Hrytzik has served with the Powell Police Department for 28 years, starting as a patrol officer with the department and working to the position of Deputy Chief of Police. He was named Deputy Chief in 2008. Deputy Chief Hrytzik attended the FBI National Academy in 2005 and served on the FBI National Academy - Ohio Chapter Board for eight years. He was the President of the FBI National Academy - Ohio Chapter Board in 2017.
He is a graduate of the Police Executive Leadership College and received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Mount Vernon Nazarene University.
Deputy Chief Hrytzik has been involved in many community service organizations throughout his time with the Powell Police Department, including serving on the board of the Liberty/Powell YMCA Board, Kiwanis Club of Powell and the Powell Sertoma Club. Additionally, he served as the President of the Delaware County Criminal Justice Association for two years. He is currently appointed by the Delaware County Commissioners to serve on the Delaware County Job and Family Services Board and is the chair of the Delaware County Emergency Management Agency Board.
