George Best Belfast City Airport has been awarded the prestigious Airport Achievement Award at this year's Aviation Industry Awards.

Beating off stiff competition from Dublin Airport, the City of Derry Airport and Shannon Airport, Belfast City Airport was recognised as Ireland's leading Airport for infrastructural improvement and passenger experience.

The Aviation Industry Awards act as a benchmark for excellence for those demonstrating best practice and innovation in the aviation sector in Ireland.

Stephen Patton, HR and CR Manager at Belfast City Airport, commented:

'It is an honour for Belfast City Airport to be presented with the Airport Achievement Award in the first year of entering the Aviation Industry Awards.

'In the past twelve months, we have undergone a complete terminal reconfiguration. Using the feedback of our loyal passenger base, we were able to identify key areas of improvement and focus on the core areas of security, retail, catering, and customer service.

'As a result, our security processing time has been reduced to an average of only six minutes per passenger, we have doubled our seating in the departures lounge, we have installed a free water refill station and we have welcomed a new bar/restaurant, The Artisan.

'We now turn our focus to the external layout of the terminal, where a covered walkway has already been installed from our Premier Car Park to the main concourse and work has begun on expanding the taxi rank and coach waiting drop-off area.'

The awards were held at an exclusive event in Dublin, where Belfast City Airport was praised for its operational excellence, a commitment to passengers and delivering the best quality airport experience.

The Airport was also shortlisted for the People Development Award following another successful year for its High Flyers programme, in which two local young people graduated into permanent positions with the Airport Fire and Rescue Service.

Stephen continued:

'Ensuring each passenger has a comfortable and stress-free journey is at the heart of our operations and we are dedicated to continually improving our award-winning service.

'The Airport Achievement Award acts as a testament to the commitment and hard work from all of our staff at the airport, without whom it would not be possible.'

Other recent accolades for Belfast City Airport include being ranked the Most Punctual Airport in the UK by the Civil Aviation Authority and retaining its ranking of 'Very Good' for accessibility services, the highest possible ranking, for the second year in a row.
