Cutler Applauds Broadband Infrastructure Grants Headed to Southern Lancaster County

Apr. 18, 2024

HARRISBURG - Pennsylvania House Republican Leader Bryan Cutler (R-Lancaster) Thursday applauded the $1.846 million in Broadband Infrastructure Project grant funding heading to Southern Lancaster County.

"Southern Lancaster County is in desperate need of additional broadband deployment. Not having access to the same high-speed internet found in most areas across Pennsylvania holds our students, employers and municipalities back in an age that is almost entirely dependent on the internet," Cutler said.

"This funding will help fund additional broadband deployment throughout Southern Lancaster County and get more areas connected to high-speed internet access as quickly as possible," according to Cutler.

The $1.846 million will go to support total broadband infrastructure deployment funding of $2,797,607 in Southern Lancaster County when the recipient match funding is accounted for.

The funding heading to Southern Lancaster County is part of a total of $204.1 million in grants for 53 projects approved by the Pennsylvania Broadband Development Authority on Thursday. The $1.846 million approved for Southern Lancaster County was awarded to Frontier Communications to assist in ongoing broadband deployment.

The Broadband Infrastructure Program is funded pursuant to the Coronavirus Capital Projects Fund established under The American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 and targets locations that do not have reliable access 25/3 Mbps service. It funds extensions of existing last-mile cable modem and fiber broadband networks, and large-scale regional projects that can serve a large number of residents in underserved areas.
