DALLAS - This week, Dallas City Councilwoman Paula Blackmon, in collaboration with Dallas Police Department and Police Chief Eddie Garcia released a PSA video that encourages safe driving in East Dallas and across the City of Dallas.

"As residents of Dallas, it is incumbent upon us to contribute to this effort and one way we can do so is by adhering to the speed limits," said Councilwoman Blackmon.

District 9 faces a unique situation where multiple state highways cross East Dallas. Originally constructed as thoroughfares for transit between Dallas and surrounding suburbs, these highways now intersect with the vibrant and evolving communities within East Dallas.

Since December 2023, efforts have been underway to bolster police presence along corridors to address instances of speeding. Notably, within a single month, the Dallas Police Department issued 300 citations along Peavy and Mockingbird with a significant portion attributed to speeding violations.

"The men and women of the Dallas Police Department are doing what they can by educating drivers about our traffic laws and enforcing them. But we need the public's help too," said Police Chief Eddie Garcia.

This video emphasizes that when navigating East Dallas, it is essential to observe speed limits and every vehicle on the road represents a member of our community.

"While we all have obligations and destinations to reach, prioritizing safety over haste ensures that we arrive at our destinations intact," Councilwoman Blackmon added.

This video also showcases the essential need to observe speed limits, pay attention, and stay alert. In addition, it outlines the City's commitment to providing safe streets for safe passage.
