ODOT NEWS RELEASE: Paving work will shift I-5 traffic on Roberts Mountain

ODOT NEWS RELEASE

April 21, 2021

ROSEBURG - Interstate 5 motorists should watch for frequent traffic control changes on Roberts Mountain the next few months due to paving work.

Starting on Sunday, April 25, the two southbound lanes over the mountain will be separated by a barrier. Passenger vehicles will be able to use either lane, but large trucks are required to veer into the right lane.

At night, paving work will limit southbound traffic to a single lane from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., Sunday night to Saturday morning. Schedules may change depending on weather.

This traffic pattern will remain in place for about a month. During that time, northbound traffic will see intermittent single-lane closures for temporary striping, guardrail installation and paving.

Motorists are advised to drive with caution and watch for construction vehicles. A 55-mph speed limit is in effect for southbound I-5 on Roberts Mountain.

The $26 million project will add climbing lanes to the northbound and southbound approach to the Roberts Mountain pass and pave five miles of Interstate 5. Construction began in February 2019 and is scheduled to be completed this fall.
