VEHICLE MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN WE ARE AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER SALARY GRADE: 'G' -- $31,080.00 per year to $40,466.00 per year MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Graduation from high school or GED equivalency with at least five years' fleet management experience; or any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. REQUIREMENT(S) Must possess a valid driver's license with a good driving record. Must pass an extensive criminal background investigation, pre-employment physical, and drug test. NATURE OF WORK PERFORMED Performs responsible work in the Police Department with regard to the vehicle maintenance, repair and replacement program; does related work as required. Work involves activities related to vehicle maintenance, exercising independent judgment when reviewing vehicle needs of the department. Maintains and coordinates repairs and preventive maintenance. The Vehicle Maintenance Technician is directed and supervised by the Support Services Commander. Coordinates vehicle purchasing through proper purchasing procedures and ensures vendor compliance. EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED (Illustrative Only) Vehicle maintenance technician duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to preparing bid specifications and recommendations for new equipment. Makes recommendations regarding the replacement of vehicles and determines the efficient and economical procedures to return vehicles to duty. Coordinates the receipt, equipping and deployment of new vehicles; schedules preventive maintenance; ensures the completion of routine and specific repairs. Files by vehicle number, work orders and departmental accident reports. Maintains the necessary keys for all departmental vehicles. Prepares and updates a vehicle inventory of all departmental vehicles. Inspects departmental vehicles for damage, mechanical failure or abuse. Police liaison manager of the Claim Management Program for City Personnel. Performs all related work as required/assigned. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Considerable knowledge of contractual specifications; extensive knowledge of vehicle maintenance requirements and specifications. Knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Excel. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and various outside agencies; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
