YORK, Pa. - Twenty-seven Penn State York students competed in the FBLA State Leadership Conference, earning 34 state placements, including nine first-place awards. The chapter was also honored with the gold seal award, and their State Chapter Presentation earned the title of "most recognized chapter in the state."
The gold seal award represents a chapter's efforts and accomplishments throughout the year through compiled documentation of every event and activity, which is submitted for judging.
The state of the chapter award is similar to the gold seal award in that it showcases the group's accomplishments from the year, but is presented live to judges, rather than submitted as documentation.
Rebecca Mauck, student competitor, explained, "One thing that really set our chapter apart from others is that we go to one of the smallest schools, as far as student count is concerned, yet we brought the highest number of students to the conference this year and we have one of the largest chapters in Pennsylvania. At the awards ceremony, I heard several people say, 'Penn State York just wins everything!'"
Fifteen students plan to compete in Orlando, Florida for the 2024 FBLA Collegiate National Leadership Conference, scheduled for June 24-27. The group's faculty adviser, Megan Lorenz, assistant teaching professor of business, will accompany them.
To compete at nationals, students had to place first through fourth place in a presentation event or exam at the state competition in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, which took place on Saturday, April 13.
