The University of Jamestown returns to Great Plains Athletic Conference action Saturday as the Jimmies welcome No. 7 Morningside (Iowa) College to Harold Newman Arena.
Saturday will be the first meeting since UJ defeated the Mustangs 70-69 on February 16 in Jamestown. The game will also be the second straight game against a ranked opponent for the Jimmies.
Jamestown and Morningside have played to a 4-4 record in their last eight meetings. UJ holds a 1-0 edge in both games played in Jamestown and at a neutral site, while Morningside is 4-2 against the Jimmies in Sioux City, Iowa.
UJ is coming off an 81-51 win over No. 21 Mayville State (N.D.) University on Wednesday. The Jimmies connected on a season-high 17 three-point field goals while tying a season high for points. Hannah DeMars (FR/Grand Rapids, MN) led UJ with 20 points, one of four Jimmies in double figures. Olivia Anderson (SR/Edgeley, ND) (14), Noelle Josephson (SO/Ramsey, MN) (13), and Macy Nilsen (FR/Edina, MN) (11) also scored in double figures for UJ.
Stat leaders for UJ include Olivia Anderson in scoring, with 9.3 points per game; Hannah DeMars with 4.9 rebounds per game; Emma Stoehr (JR/Woodbury, MN) with 2.7 assists per game; Noelle Josephson with 3.1 steals per game; and Mackensi Higlin (JR/Mandan, ND) with 1.0 blocked shots per game. Anderson's .561 field goal percentage and DeMars' .824 free throw percentage are also team highs.
Morningside is 8-3 after their first 11 games. The Mustangs already have three wins against Top 25 opponents, including then-ranked No. 5 Dordt (Iowa). Morningside lost 88-77 to No. 1 Concordia (Neb.) on Wednesday, snapping a two-game winning streak.
UJ plays their final game of 2019 on Monday, December 30, at Presentation (S.D.) College and is at Midland (Neb.) on January 2 before returning home to face Hastings (Neb.) January 4 at 1 p.m.
