Update on Petition - 'Support for the Recreation and Aquatic Facility (RAF)'

At the Ordinary Council Meeting on Tuesday 27 September 2022, Council voted not to receive a Petition titled 'Support for the Recreation and Aquatic Facility (RAF)' with a vote of 5/4 against Item 8.1.1.

Following this decision, the City has had a number of enquiries seeking further clarification as to why the petition was not received and what happens next.

It has been longstanding practice at the City for petitions to be placed on the Council agenda for Council to receive the petition without debate, as there is no accompanying officer report.

Following this, the petition is processed in accordance with the Standing Orders (Clause 6.9) and is then included in deliberations for any future report on the matter to be considered by Council.

Notwithstanding Council decision on Tuesday 27 September 2022, the RAF petition titled 'Support for the Recreation and Aquatic Facility (RAF)', will be processed in accordance with the Standing Orders, and as such will form part of the officer report to council when the Recreational Aquatic Facility (RAF) is next considered by Council.

At this stage it is anticipated there will be a report on the RAF at the next Ordinary Council Meeting on Tuesday 25 October.

The City remains committed to the RAF and is continuing to work with the State and Federal Government.

A first for WA, the RAF offers a unique model combining sporting and recreational facilities and will address a significant lack of community sporting and recreational facilities.
