Long Beach, CA - After two consecutive years of virtual programming, the 22nd Annual KJLH 102.3 Women's Health Expo is returning to the Long Beach Convention and Entertainment Center as an in-person event on Saturday, May 21, 2022. The Expo is presented by the Black Infant Health Program (BIH) Long Beach/Fresno as title sponsor. The event theme is Celebrate Life, and more than 10,000 women are expected to join an array of festivities highlighting women's healthy lifestyle products, services and activities.

"The Black Infant Health Program has provided critical services to keep Black mothers and children safe and healthy for more than 30 years," said Mayor Robert Garcia. "I'm excited to welcome the KJLH Women's Health Expo back to our city to help continue this important work."

The expo will feature the Black Infant Health Pavilion,a 90 x 80 square foot space with BIH program staff from across the state offering tabletop maternal-child health education along with a variety of promotional items. These will be joined by additional health program vendors offering mommy/baby resources including 4D ultrasounds, doula information, child passenger safety demos, oral health resources, childhood lead poisoning prevention support and mommy/baby supplies, in addition to family-friendly events including interactive games, opportunity drawings, a 360-degree photo booth, kid zone activities, and baby friendly prizes and giveaways.

"Infant mortality is a key indicator of population health, which makes maternal health very important," said Long Beach City Health Officer Dr. Anissa Davis. "The work of our Black Infant Health Program team demonstrates the Health Department's commitment to bridging the gap of Black birth disparity. I encourage everyone to visit the Black Infant Health Pavilion during this year's Women's Health Expo."

Two culturally affirming breakout sessions will facilitate a learning experience for Expo attendees. Topics will include Transgenerational Trauma and Resilience and Maternal and Mental Health. There will also be subject matter experts sharing information relevant to women's health during on-the-spot interviews by KJLH radio personality, Tammi Mac.

The Expo will take place at the Long Beach Convention and Entertainment Center (300 E Ocean Blvd.) on Saturday, May 21, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Doors will open to the public starting at 6 a.m., and KJLH will broadcast live from 8 to 10 a.m. For more information and to register, people may visit the KJLH Women's Health Expo webpage. Registration is recommended but not required to attend.

In 2020, the City of Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services Black Infant Health Program was awarded $1 million by the California Department of Public Health to implement a two-year statewide Black Infant Health Program public awareness campaign. This funding was used to contract a variety of media partners, including KJLH Radio, to market the program across radio, social media, multimedia and other digital platforms statewide.

The Expo will shine a spotlight on the Black Infant Health Program, a 33-year-old Health Department program that aims to improve health among Black mothers and babies by empowering pregnant and mothering Black women to make healthy choices for a brighter future.
