LPD continues to investigate fatal collision

04/16/2024 - On April 15, 2024, at approximately 6:12 p.m., Leander Police officers responded to the intersection of US 183 at Sheila Drive for a motorcycle vs. vehicle collision with injuries. The initial investigation indicates a Chevrolet van pulled out of Sheila Drive to turn left/north onto US 183. A Honda motorcycle then struck the left rear side of the van.

Witnesses, police officers and EMS attempted life-saving measures on the rider of the motorcycle. The rider of the motorcycle was pronounced deceased on scene. The driver of the van stayed on scene and spoke with officers. The driver of the van was cited for failure to yield right of way turning left.

The deceased was identified as Brendan Kayle Johnson (W/M, 29) of Leander, Texas.

The Leander Police Collision Reconstruction Team is continuing its investigation and reconstruction of this fatal crash. Witnesses or anyone with dash camera footage of the crash should contact Cpl. Gonzalez at 512-528-2800 or [email protected]. No other information is being released at this time.
