MLGW reopens Power of Warmth applications

(January 20, 2022) Memphis Light, Gas and Water has added a second Power of Warmth event in conjunction with the Neighborhood Christian Centers to assist qualified low-income seniors and disabled residents of Shelby County. The MLGW program provides free space heaters and electric blankets.

Online applications will be accepted through Jan. 24 or until all units have been committed. Applications can be submitted online at mlgw.com/powerofwarmth. Qualified applicants will be notified by text on Jan. 31 with details on where to retrieve heaters and blankets.

To qualify for the Power of Warmth Program, applicants must be a resident of Shelby County, disabled and/or a low-income senior (age 60 or older) and have an MLGW account in their name. Applicants cannot have previously received an appliance from MLGW. Applicants will need the following credentials on hand:
  • MLGW bill in the applicant's name.
  • Tennessee State ID or Driver's License to verify age and address.
  • The most recent pay stub or Social Security Income statement to verify income.
  • Disability documentation, if applicable.
