Operation O Kae Molao Saturday’s instalment in Gauteng results in the arrest of 660 people for various offence

PARKTOWN - The Provincial Commissioner of Gauteng, Lieutenant General Elias Mawela from 18:00 on Saturday, 30 April to 02:00 on Sunday 1 May 2022, led the Tshwane multidisciplinary Operation O Kae Molao in Mabopane and Loate precincts.

The other four Districts; Ekurhuleni, Sedibeng, Johannesburg and West Rand also conducted their operations simultaneously with Tshwane's operation.

The operations have resulted in the arrests of 660 people for various crimes including over 30 undocumented persons and the confiscation of three unlicensed firearm & ammunition, drugs, dagga, a vehicle with engine tempered with, illegal mining equipments, and liquor from illegal shebeens among other items.

The Detectives' suspects raiding which is the first phase of the operation saw the arrest of more than 300 people. Over 140 of which were arrested for gender based violence related crimes.

The second phase of the operation is conducted by Visible Policing together with other law enforcement agencies through roadblocks, stop and searches, vehicle checkpoints and compliance at liquor outlets as well as at second-hand good dealers.

While conducting liquor outlets compliance inspections about ten illegal shebeens were closed and hundreds of litres of liquor confiscated.

Operation O Kae Molao's successes are guaranteed by the multiplicity of resources from various stakeholders to bolster this weekly crime fighting campaign. This Saturday the SAPS members were joined by members from Metropolitan Police Departments from Tshwane, Ekurhuleni and Johannesburg, Gauteng Traffic, Emergency Medical Services, Local Traffic, Department of Home Affairs, Department of Correctional Services, various Security Companies under the banner of Eyes and Ears Project by Business Against Crime South Africa, Tracker as well as Community Policing Forum among other stakeholders.
