House Poised to Vote on Plan to Reverse Biden Ban on Oil Leases

The House is expected to vote this week on a plan to reverse the Biden administration's cancellation of oil leases in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and block the Interior Department's recently finalized rule to limit oil and gas leasing on 13 million acres of the National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska.

Competitive Enterprise Institute energy policy experts support the bipartisan bill called Alaska's Right to Produce Act of 2023 (H.R. 6285) sponsored by Representatives Stauber (R-MN), Peltola (D-AK) Hern (R-OK) and Pfluger (R-TX).

"The Biden administration has repeatedly undermined opportunities for economic growth and job opportunities in Alaska with a politically-driven war on American energy production. This anti-energy agenda has also forced the nation to look overseas for energy sources and drain our Strategic Petroleum Reserve. This bill is a necessary step towards reshoring our energy production and freeing the state from harmful federal [DB1] policies that kill jobs, waste time spent on environmental analysis and applications, and ignore the wishes of native communities."
