Jury Convicts Man in Central Park Heights Homicide

Defendant Fatally Wounded One Victim and Others Sustained Multiple Gunshot Wounds

Baltimore, Md (August 26, 2021)- Stephen Washington, 34, was found guilty by a Baltimore City jury of Second-Degree Murder, Attempted Second Degree Murder, two counts of Use of a Firearm in a Commission of a Crime of Violence, and Wear, Carry, and Transport of a Handgun. Washington faces a maximum sentence of 100 years in prison.

Assistant State's Attorney Rita Wisthoff-Ito prosecuted this case.

On July 20, 2019, at approximately 10:30 p.m., officers responded to the 2800 block of Boarman Avenue where they located three victims suffering from gunshot wounds. The victims were identified as Nathaniel Greene, who was fatally struck in the back and leg and later died from his injuries; Perry Bailey, who was struck in the back and stomach; and, Demetric Greene, who was struck in the head. A short time later, officers were notified of a walk-in shooting victim at Saint Agnes Hospital who was later identified as Stephen Washington.

The crime scene consisted of eight 9mm cartridge casings and five .40 cal cartridge casings. Defectives also located 13 more 9mm cartridge casings at the intersection of Reisterstown Road and Boarman Avenue.

The investigation determined that Stephen Washington and an unknown male entered the 2800 block of Boarman Avenue from Reisterstown Road. As Washington and his companion approached a group of individuals including the victims, video footage shows the unknown male shooting at the victims, with Washington slightly out of the camera range. However, the firearms examiner testified that two firearms were used to shoot the victims.

Following the shooting, Washington and the unknown male ran back towards Reisterstown Road. Video footage shows a different unknown male exit a vehicle at the intersection of Reisterstown Road and Boarman Avenue and shoot at Washington and his companion as they ran down Reisterstown Road before turning right onto Grantley Avenue.

During the interview with Stephen Washington, he admitted to detectives that he was shot down on Reisterstown Road after running from Boarman Avenue and that a friend drove him to Saint Agnes Hospital.

'The defendant's actions were unacceptable, and he will deservedly be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law for his malicious crime,' said State's Attorney Mosby. 'I send my prayers to Mr. Greene's family as they continue to mourn the sudden passing of their loved one and hope this verdict brings them some measure of closure.'
