Minister of Defence Kalle Laanet met with his Finnish counterpart, Antti Kaikkonen, with whom bilateral defence cooperation was discussed.
'Finland is a crucial long-term regional partner for us, and Estonia highly values defence cooperation with Finland, both bilaterally in the Nordic-Baltic format and in the European context', stated Kalle Laanet.
'We are pleased that Finnish servicemen will be participating in our training exercises and this mutual acquisition of defence experience will continue in the same good spirit of cooperation', added Minister of Defence Laanet.
The Defence Ministers exchanged ideas on the topic of joint procurement, and Minister Laanet found that Finland has been a great help to Estonia in this field. Defence cooperation between Estonia and Finland remains close, especially in recent years, in the fields of joint procurement and capability development.
Also discussed at the meeting were bilateral cooperation in air and sea monitoring, relations between the European Union and NATO, and the role of Finland as a NATO partner in regional cooperation between countries along the Baltic Sea.
The Defence Ministers expressed hope that they would be able to visit each other once the epidemiological situation improves.
