Empowering Tomorrow's Leaders: Winterveldt High School Receives Generous Tech Donation

In a landmark event demonstrating the power of collaboration and community empowerment, the Speaker of Council, Cllr. Mncedi Ndzwanana, joined forces with the Telkom Foundation, Tshwane North College (TNC), CoGTA, and Eskom to deliver a transformative gift to the learners of Winterveldt High School. On Wednesday, 24 April 2024, 31 computers and 34 chairs were officially handed over to the school, marking a significant stride towards equipping the youth of Tshwane with the tools they need to excel in today's digital age.

This initiative is part of the Speaker's unwavering vision to foster a technologically adept generation within the City of Tshwane. By partnering with esteemed organisations such as the Telkom Foundation, TNC, CoGTA, and Eskom, the Speaker aims to empower learners, ensuring they are prepared to thrive in an ever-evolving world driven by technology.

For Telkom Foundation, this handover marks a significant milestone in their ongoing mission to empower communities through the Foundation's Connected Schools programme, which stands poised to revolutionise the educational landscape for learners, by equipping them with essential digital skils and ensuring they are prepared to thrive in an increasingly digitised world.

Judy Vilakazi, Head of Telkom Foundation, highlighted the profound impact of the Connected Schools programme, stating, "Since its inception in 2017, the programme has empowered over 7,000 high school learners and educators across 21 schools in Eastern Cape and Gauteng. Our holistic approach encompasses academic support, psychosocial care, and essential digital literacy, laying a solid foundation for success in mathematics, science, and English."

The collaborative effort between district education officials, subject advisors, teachers, and school leadership emphasises the commitment of all stakeholders to create a nurturing environment conducive to learning and growth.

Expressing his delight at the initiative, Cllr. Mncedi Ndzwanana of the Office of the Speaker reiterated the importance of equipping today's learners with the necessary tools for advancement. "Our learners are the future leaders of this country. It is imperative that they are equipped with the resources to thrive. I extend my sincere gratitude to all partners involved in this endeavor," said Ndzwanana.

The anticipation surrounding the official handover was palpable at Winterveldt High School, with Acting Principal and Deputy Principal Ubisse Simon Felix expressing profound gratitude for the donation. "We feel honored to receive these computers. Without a doubt, our learners will benefit immensely, facilitating a seamless teaching and learning experience," said Felix.
