Effective July 1, College President Dr. Donald "Guy" Generals will become one of the newest AACC Board of Directors

PHILADELPHIA - Community College of Philadelphia President Dr. Donald "Guy" Generals has been elected to the Board of Directors of the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC). Founded in 1920, the AACC is the primary advocacy organization for the nation's community colleges. The association represents more than 1,000 2-year, associate degree-granting institutions and nearly 12 million students.

Dr. Generals' board term will begin on July 1 and continue through June 30, 2025. As an AACC Board of Director, he will be tasked with creating and maintaining a vision for the AACC and ensuring that the organization adheres to appropriate standards of performance.

"I am honored to have been elected by my colleagues from across the nation to serve on the Board of Directors of the American Association of Community Colleges," said Dr. Generals. "Community colleges play a pivotal role in ensuring that everyone has access to a high-quality post-secondary education from accredited and trusted institutions. I look forward to learning from college presidents from across the country on how we can work together to strengthen our respective colleges and continue to serve the students who needs us most."

Dr. Generals was elected to the AACC Board of Directors in February along with five other college presidents from across the country including:

  • Leigh Goodson, president, Tulsa Community College (Oklahoma)
  • Russell Lowery-Hart, president, Amarillo College (Texas)
  • Avis Proctor, president, William Rainey Harper College (Illinois)
  • Ronald Rhames, president, Midlands Technical College (South Carolina)
  • "Dr. Generals is highly respected by his peers around the country, and I am confident that he will represent and advocate for community colleges effectively on the national level," said AACC
  • President and CEO Walter G. Bumphus. "The AACC staff, current board members and I look forward to welcoming him to the board of directors."
