The Governments of Lithuania and Poland will convene in Vilnius on Thursday, 17 September, for the first joint meeting in the history of the bilateral relations. It will bring together over 20 ministers and Chancellors of the Government of both countries .The meeting will be chaired by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Lithuania Saulius Skvernelis and Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland Mateusz Morawiecki. The joint session will be preceded by bilateral talks between the Prime Ministers and ministers of Lithuania and Poland.
'The joint meeting of the Lithuanian-Polish Governments will give meaning to the bilateral cooperation happening between the two states. This is a new chapter in the development of the relations between our countries and our people. We talk and we find agreement on absolutely all the issues of the bilateral relations and the neighbourhood policy', says Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis.
The meetings will summarise the progress made in the strategic partnership between Lithuania and Poland. Much attention will be paid to the strengthening of cultural relations and the shared historical memory policy, as well as close cooperation in education. Health ministers will discuss the COVID-19 response measures. Strategic transport and energy infrastructure projects will also be on the agenda, along with plans for the future in terms of economic cooperation, particularly as regards Orlen Lietuva and the cooperation between the railway companies of both countries. The counterparts will also discuss the security situation in the region and the development of defence cooperation. They will also focus on the regional responsibility of Lithuania and Poland in mobilising the support of the international community for the people of Belarus.
Several important documents covering different fields of Lithuania-Poland cooperation are expected to be signed during the meeting.
The joint meeting is convened at the invitation of Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis, and it is hoped to take a regular character in the future.
