Pair of Comets Named AVCA All-Region, Allison Honored

RICHARDSON, TX (11.14.19) - Four members of the UT Dallas volleyball program along with Comet head coach were recognized as the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) released its all-region teams for NCAA Division III Thursday morning, prior to the start of the national tournament.


Senior outside hitter and sophomore outside hitter were both named all-region by the AVCA while Allison was tabbed region Coach of the Year for the second time in her career. In addition, senior setter was labeled honorable mention all-region and freshman outside hitter was tabbed region Freshman of the Year, becoming just the second-ever Comet to collect that honor.

Via, a native of Frisco, leads the Comets with 3.23 kills per set this season, while adding 3.58 digs per set and a team-best 66 service aces. The American Southwest Conference East Division Co-Mostg Valuable Player picked up All-ASC and first team All-ASC East honors for the second straight sason.She was a four-time ASC East Player of the Week this season, earning offensive honors once and defensive honors on three occasions.

A native of Murphy, Owen collected her first all-conference certificate this fall, earning first team All-ASC East honors. She entered the national tournament with entering the postseason with 2.71 kills per set and a .316 hitting percentage. She was a two-time ASC East Offensive Player of the Week this fall.

Shecterle, a native of Pearland, is averaging 6.42 assists per set while controlling the Comets' 6-2 offense this fall. Now a three-time All-ASC performer, she was tabbed All-ASC East for the fourth straight season, earning first team honors for the third consecutive season. Shecterle was a four-time ASC East Offensive Player of the Week selection this fall for the Comets.

A native of Buda, Croft ranks second on the squad with 2.71 kills per set and adds 3.01 digs per outing as well. She was named ASC East Offensive Player of the Week once this season.

Allison is in her 16th season at the helm of the Comets and was also named the AVCA West Region Coach of the Year in 2016.
