MOFA expresses profound condolences and concern following a tragic stampede in Seoul, Republic of Korea, on evening of October 29

On the evening of October 29, a tragic accident arising from a stampede during Halloween celebrations in Itaewon, Yongsan District, Seoul, Republic of Korea, resulted in numerous deaths and injuries. At the instruction of President Tsai Ing-wen, and on behalf of the people and government of the Republic of China (Taiwan), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) extended heartfelt sympathies and condolences to the families of victims and the people and government of the Republic of Korea through Representative Chung Byung-won of the Korean Mission in Taipei.

Representative Chung thanked the government and people of Taiwan for their prompt message of sympathy and concern, which he stated would immediately be forwarded to Seoul. MOFA also asked the Taipei Mission in Korea to express condolences to the government of the Republic of Korea, which reciprocated with a message of appreciation for Taiwan's sincere friendship.

The Taipei Mission in Korea has contacted Korean police authorities and ascertained that to date, no Taiwanese tourists, students, or expatriates have been identified among the dead or injured. In case of urgent need of assistance, Taiwanese nationals in the Republic of Korea can call the Taipei Mission in Korea's emergency hotline at +82-10-9080-2761. (E)
