Today, House Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee Chairwoman Lucille Roybal-Allard (CA-40)
announced the awarding of more than $39 million in competitively awarded Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) preparedness grants to Los Angeles area communities or to the State of California. As chairwoman of the Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee, Chairwoman Roybal-Allard oversees FEMA funding.
'From protecting our schools and houses of worship, to securing our transit systems and our ports, these FEMA grants will be crucial to keeping our communities safe,'
said Chairwoman Roybal-Allard. 'As Chairwoman of the House Homeland Security Appropriations Committee, I thank FEMA for working with our communities and our state to address critical security needs. I will keep fighting to make certain FEMA has the funding it needs to keep providing essential security grants and other support to our communities.'
A summary of the grants is below.
The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority received $12,180,025 from the Transit Security Grant Program.
California received $12,010,000 from Operation Stonegarden
, which supports enhanced cooperation and coordination among Customs and Border Protection, U.S. Border Patrol, and federal, state, local, tribal, and territorial law enforcement agencies.
The Los Angeles/Long Beach Area received 18 grants for a total of $10,129,248 from the Port Security Grant Program.
Grants were awarded to A.P.M Terminals Pacific Ltd.; City of Long Beach, Harbor Department (POLB); City of Los Angeles Harbor Department (POLA); City of Los Angeles Police Dept. (LAPD); County of Los Angeles (Sheriff's Department); International Transportation Service, Inc. (ITS); LBCT LLC; Long Beach Police Department (LBPD); Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD); Marine Exchange of Los Angeles Long Beach Harbor, Inc.; Pacific Maritime Services, LLC; SSA Pacific, Inc; SSA Terminals (Pier A) LLC; SSA Terminals LLC; Total Terminals International, LLC (TTI); TraPac LLC - Los Angeles; WWL Vehicle Services Americas, Inc.; and Yusen Terminals LLC.
The Los Angeles/Long Beach Area received 22 grants for a total of $2,106,063 from the Non-Profit Security Grant Program - Urban Area.
Grants were awarded to AGBU MaNoogian-Demirdjian School; Armenian Cultural Foundation; Congregation Etz Chaim of Hancock Park; Em Habanim Sephardic Congregation; First Congregational Church of Long Beach; Friendship Circle of the West Coast; Grace Community Church of the Valley; InChrist Community Church Valley Chapel; Los Angeles Brotherhood Crusade Inc; Los Angeles Jewish Home for the Aging; New Horizon School Westside; the Open Temple; Providence High School; the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Los Angeles; Tashbar Sephardic Yeshiva Ketana; Temple Aliyah, Inc.; Temple Israel of Hollywood DBA Hillside Memorial Park and Mortuary; Temple Sinai of Glendale; The Ness Counseling Center Inc; Valley Village Community Kollel, Inc; Ward African Methodist Episcopal Church; and Westwood Hills Congregational Church.
California also received 16 additional grants for a total of $1,350,170 from the Non-Profit Security Grant Program - State.
Grants were awarded to Bnei Akiva of Los Angeles; California Avenue Church of Christ; Chabad of Moorpark; Christ Community Church of Imperial Valley, Inc.; Christian Life Center; Congregation Beth David Of San Luis Obispo; Congregation Bnai Brith; Habonim Camp Kvutza; San Gorgonio Memorial Hospital; Simpson University; SunLine Transit Agency; Tawonga Jewish Community Corporation; Temple Beth El; Temple Etz Chaim; Temple Sinai - Jewish Community Center of Palm Desert; and Ventura County Jewish Council.
The Tribal Homeland Security Grant Program awarded 3 grants for a total of $1,261,349.
Grants were awarded to Cabazon Band of Mission Indians; Cahuilla Band of Indians; and Cher-Ae Heights Indian Community of the Trinidad Rancheria.
The Intercity Bus Security Program awarded three grants for a total of $106,207.
Grants were awarded to All West Coachlines, Inc.; Americanstar Tours dba American Star Tours & Travel; and Carreras Tours, LLC.
