Fire Station 9 Call for Artists

The City of Las Cruces Public Art program (LCPA) seeks an artist or artist team to create a site-specific outdoor art piece to promote the forthcoming Fire Station 9 to be built in City Council District 5.

LCPA wishes to commission an art piece that evokes the history and ethos of the local firefighting community, adds identity to the fire station and neighborhood, serves as a focal point of the fire station, and is visible from several vantage points. It may be inspired by an original Las Cruces 1915 pumper that will be displayed in the fire station lobby. The public art piece will be prominently installed in front of the new fire station.

The commission is open to all artists or artist teams, regardless of race, color, creed, gender, gender variance, national origin, age, religion, marital status, political opinion, or affiliation, or mental or physical handicap.

Artists working in any media are eligible to apply. Artists are not required to have previous experience in public art but should demonstrate a level of expertise and professionalism that is commensurate with the project scope and budget.

All submissions will be reviewed by jury process. The winning design will be presented to the City Art Board and Las Cruces City Council.

The selected artist or art team shall collaborate with the City of Las Cruces Public Works Department and the LCPA program coordinator in the specifications and completion of this project. Artists must apply via Callforentry.org (CaFḖ™).
