More people may quarantine in their own home

On 27 May, the quarantine hotel programme was changed, so that the rate of infection in the country a person has visited now determines whether they must stay at a quarantine hotel or not.

The infection situation in Europe has changed, and the Ministry is now updating the appendices to the COVID-19 Regulations and is adding even more countries. The changes will enter into effect today at 3 pm.

'We are pleased to see that the rate of infection in Europe is falling. This means that more people can complete travel quarantine in their own home or other suitable accommodation where it is possible to avoid close contact with others, with a separate bathroom and kitchen. This applies to travellers arriving from Germany and Italy, for example', says Minister of Justice and Public Security Monica Mæland.

Travel from Iceland no longer requires travel quarantine. Travel from Malta will no longer require travel quarantine from Monday 7 June at 12 am. This means that people who travel directly to Norway from Malta must quarantine at home until Monday 7 June at 12 am. They may then end their travel quarantine. Travellers from Malta who stop in Germany en route to Norway, for example when changing flights, must follow the quarantine requirements that apply to travel from Germany.
