Arson Suspect Placed Under Arrest in Mattapan

At about 1:18 PM, on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, officers assigned to District B-3 (Mattapan) and members of the Fire Investigation Unit arrested Ladarrell Murchison, 30, of Mattapan, on arson related charges.

Officers responded to the area of 27 W Main Street, for a report of a fire. Upon arrival, officers were advised that an unknown male suspect broke the front window and ignited the surrounding area of the window and curtains, causing a small fire. The suspect then broke the victim's back door window by using a shovel, and threw a shopping bag containing two incendiary devices into the kitchen area. Officers recovered two plastic bottles containing what they believed to be containing an accelerant.

After further investigation, officers were able to determine the suspect's identity and a possible location. Officers responded to the area of 85 Deering Road, and knocked and announced their presence. Officers located the suspect and placed him into handcuffs.

Murchison was placed under arrest and charged with arson of a dwelling house, attempted arson of a dwelling house, breaking and entering daytime for a felony, and placing/throwing explosives. He is expected to be arraigned in West Roxbury District Court.
