FAIRVIEW HEIGHTS, Ill. -- The Mount Mercy women's bowling team continued a strong 2019-20 bowling campaign, landing their first championship at a Tier 1 event, taking the team title at the Team Match Games on Saturday and Sunday. The Mustang men finished seventh at the event.
Saturday began with a women's team record six-game block of 6,171 as Mount Mercy led after day one. Five Mustangs were in the top 15 individually, including all-tournament honorees Ayra Nur Jehan Aminuddin (FR/Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia) and Cassidy Courey (JR/Brooklyn Center, Minn.). They finished second and fifth, respectively. Rylee Blood (SR/Ely, Iowa), Sydney Urben (SO/Dorr, Mich.), and Kayla Stammer (SR/Vermillion, S.D.) were also in the top 15. The Mustangs kept it rolling on day two and took home the first Tier 1 championship in program history.
'This was a tremendous weekend,' said Head Coach Andy Diercks. 'On a holiday weekend, our student-athletes sacrificed for us, competed, and made history. The men's squad also fought well and finished in the top 10 of a strong, 27-team field.'
The Mustang bowlers wrap up the pre-holiday schedule at the Warhawk Open on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 7-8.
