The beach banks of a land fill project in suburban Jinshan District were connected from the east and west side along Hangzhou Bay on Tuesday, 21 days ahead of the original plan.
With a total length of 4,823 meters, the banks of the land fill project are east to Longquan Harbor, north to the Shanghai-Hangzhou Highway and west to the east bank of the City Beach.
The total planning area is around 3.08 square kilometers. With hydraulic reclamation of around 16.88 million cubic meters, 41 percent of the area will be water and greenery. Seven recreational projects will be constructed in the area, including a culture and entertainment center, an exhibition center, a business center, a shopping center, wetlands, a culture and innovation center, and a beach resort.
With a total investment of 2.697 billion yuan (US$396.62 million), the land fill project started on December 26, 2017, and is slated to be completed by year-end.
Sponge city facilities will be also set up in the area to save water, and the whole project aims to be a model in the marine ecology field in China.
