Saint Barnabas Medical Center Names New Chair of Department of Pediatrics

Congratulations to Dennis Brenner, MD, who has recently been named Chair of the Department of Pediatrics at Saint Barnabas Medical Center (SBMC). Dr. Brenner joined RWJBarnabas Health (RWJBH) in 2007 and became Division Chief of Pediatric Endocrinology at SBMC in 2009. In his new role, Dr. Brenner will lead the more than 250 pediatricians who are part of the SBMC Department of Pediatrics.

"Under Dr. Brenner's leadership, the Department of Pediatrics will continue to grow and adapt to meet the needs of our patients, their families as well as our community and employed pediatricians," says Gregory Rokosz, DO, JD, FACEP, Chief Medical Officer, SBMC. "Dr. Brenner's expertise in the field of pediatrics will guide the department to continue innovating and providing the most advanced care for our pediatric population."

Specializing in the treatment of children with endocrine disorders, Dr. Brenner's philosophy is to provide individualized care and treatment to all pediatric patients. He received his medical degree from State University of New York Health Science Center at Brooklyn, followed by a residency and fellowship at North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System's Schneider Children's Hospital, in New Hyde Park, NY. Dr. Brenner has been the recipient of multiple Top Doctors awards as well as published numerous publications, research articles and participated in a number of speaking engagements.

In his tenure as Division Chief of Pediatric Endocrinology, Dr. Brenner focused on providing the latest technological advancements in diabetes care to all of his patients. He helped implement a team-based approach to diabetes care and has grown the practice significantly in patient volume.

With an interest in informatics, Dr. Brenner designed his own Electronic Medical Record (EMR) application that has been in continuous use at SBMC and RWJBH since 2005 and contains data on over 100,000 pediatric endocrinology visits. The forthcoming rollout of the Epic EMR will be an integral part of Dr. Brenner's plan to improve care of the children of Essex Country and help the Department of Pediatrics grow and thrive.

Virtually every major pediatric sub-specialty service is represented in the Department of Pediatrics at SBMC and participates in an integrated residency program with the Children's Hospital of New Jersey at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center.

Dr. Brenner's clinical practice is located at the Pediatric Specialty Center, 375 Mount Pleasant Avenue, Suite 105, West Orange, NJ 07052. To make an appointment, please call 973-322-6900.
