The Minister of Foreign Affairs (MFA), João Gomes Cravinho will participate this Monday, in New York, in the High-level debate on the theme "Enhancing youth mainstreaming in crime prevention policies", within the scope of the 76th edition of the United Nations General Assembly.

On the same day, the head of the Portuguese diplomacy will hold a series of working meetings, namely with the Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, and the President of the General Assembly, Abdulla Shahid,as well as with the Under-Secretary-Generals for Peace Operations, Jean-Pierre Lacroix and Political Affairs and Peacebuilding, Rosemary DiCarlo.

This MFA visit to New York coincides with the election of the new President of the 77th General Assembly of the United Nations, the Hungarian Csaba Kőrösi.

Nearing 20 days before Lisbon hosts the United Nations Ocean Conference, and coinciding with the celebration of the World Oceans Day, the Minister will attend the celebratory event on Wednesday at the UN headquarters. Under the theme " Revitalization: Collective Action for the Ocean", this initiative precedes the World conference that will take place in the Portuguese capital, between the 27th of June and the 1st of July, and which will be a meeting point for more than 5 thousand people. More than 60 countries have already confirmed their presence at the ministerial level or higher, with the confirmed presence of more than two dozen heads of State and Government as well as of several dozen agencies, organisations and other entities.

Under the category of this visit, the Minister João Gomes Cravinho will dedicate the day of Tuesday to contacts with the Portuguese community, starting the journey with a visit to the Consulate General of Newark, East Side High- to deliver Portuguese textbooks- and the centenary Sport Clube Português, among other moments with the Portuguese representatives from the consular area of New York. The day ends with an event to note the Day of Portugal, Camões and Portuguese Communities.
