American Tobacco District Waterline Replacement - Phase 1 Project Update and Two-Week Look Ahead

The City appreciates your ongoing patience with the work along the busy corridors associated with this project. Additional information regarding this project can be found at: https://durhamnc.gov/2780/American-Tobacco-District-Waterline-Repl.

**Please note that this is the last anticipated two-week look ahead for the American Tobacco District Waterline Replacement - Phase 1 Project. All pipeline work and paving activities are complete and the Contractor will be completing punch-list items over the next few weeks. Limited lane shifts and closures should be required to complete work items. Phase 2 of this project, which includes additional water and sewer improvements in the eastern portion of the American Tobacco District, is anticipated to begin in 2023.**

Planned Road / Lane Closures will occur as follows:

  • Week of 8/15:
    • Varying temporary lane shifts in project area.
  • Week of 8/22:
    • Varying temporary lane shifts in project area.

Bicycle Lane and Sidewalk impacts will occur as follows:

  • Portions of the sidewalk on the west side of Gregson Street between Peabody and Pettigrew streets will have temporary closures to accommodate sidewalk replacements.

Saturday - Sunday August 13-14, 2022:

  • No work is planned on Saturday or Sunday.

Week of August 15, 2022:

  • Varying temporary lane shifts throughout the project area will be implemented to accommodate final road, sidewalk, and curb repairs.
    • Traffic control signs and markings will be used for temporary lane closures and shifts.
    • Lane shifts with flaggers will be utilized for traffic control while work is taking place in intersections.
    • Noise levels in excess of the current City noise ordinance are anticipated during work hours.
    • Planned work hours are 7 AM to 7 PM.
    • No water or sewer service disruptions are anticipated.

Saturday - Sunday August 20-21, 2022:

  • No work is planned on Saturday or Sunday.

Week of August 22, 2022:

  • Varying temporary lane shifts throughout the project area will be implemented to accommodate final road, sidewalk, and curb repairs.
