Trinseo was recognized for a second year by the American Chemistry Council (ACC) with three Responsible Care® awards for the company's performance in energy efficiency, safety and waste minimization.
"We are honored that our sustainability initiatives were recognized by the ACC, as it places us among the top echelon of companies in the United States," said Senior Vice President of Engineered Materials and Chief Sustainability Officer Francesca Reverberi. "Our employees are dedicated to our sustainability strategy, and recognitions like this are a testament to their hard work each day. Without their efforts, we would not be able to move the needle on our sustainability goals."
The company was recognized with the following Responsible Care awards for work in 2023:
Exceptional Merit for the Waste Minimization Award
This recognition was awarded to the Dalton, Georgia, U.S. facility, where an innovative approach to reclaiming unreacted monomers for latex production resulted in a 50% decrease in hazardous waste being sent off-site. Through a capture and reuse process, the facility gathered the unreacted monomer waste and safely reused it in the latex polymerization process as a feed stream.
Exceptional Merit for the Energy Efficiency Award
Trinseo's decarbonization strategy was recognized for a second year, as teams kicked off Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) energy reduction projects. This included conducting renewable energy feasibility studies at the Midland, MI; Louisville, KY; and Dalton, GA, facilities. Other projects highlighted in the application include:
Additionally, our efforts to implement a Scope 3 GHG strategy and management system were recognized.
Facility Safety Awards
Trinseo's U.S. manufacturing facilities in Belen, NM; Dalton, GA; Louisville, KY; and Midland, MI, were recognized for their significant achievements in employee health and safety performance. Trinseo is a dedicated member of the ACC Responsible Care® Program and believes in continuous Environmental, Health and Safety performance improvement.
