Reproductive health problems identified

The committees of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan for science, education and health, youth, culture and sports, as well as for women and gender equality held a round table on the topic 'Topical issues of reproductive health of minors'

In our country, a regulatory framework has been created that regulates relations with education of minors on reproductive health issues. In particular, this process is carried out in cooperation with the education and health authorities according to specially approved programs developed in close cooperation with the families of minors, taking into account their age, psychological and physical characteristics.

Today, in grades 1-4 of secondary chools, the course 'Health Lessons' covers the world around, natural sciences, physical education, in grades 5-8 'Foundations of a Healthy Generation', in grades 9-11 'Culture of Life'. Healthy lifestyle 'biology, technology, in the field of physical education and in grades 9-10 in the field of biology, reproductive health, physiology of adolescents. In addition, from the 2020-2021 academic year, the subject 'Education' was introduced in grades 1-11, topics aimed at improving literacy in the field of reproductive health were introduced.

At the round table it was noted that in addition to the work done, there are problems in the field that need to be solved. In particular, among young people there is a lack of advertising and education on the formation of a healthy family, strengthening the reproductive health of adolescents, especially adolescent girls, together with medical and educational institutions, community meetings, and the media.

In addition, the teaching of reproductive health and the physiology of adolescents in secondary schools is not carried out on the basis of programs approved by the Ministry of Public Education. It was also noted that although these curricula are taught by specially trained professionals, most schools are taught by non-specialist teachers.

It was also criticized that there were no specific lessons for teaching reproductive health and physiology of adolescents, and in some cases, classes on these topics were organized during long breaks between lessons. In addition, textbooks developed by relevant ministries and departments, international organizations, instructions for seminars and trainings were not fully delivered to secondary schools.

As a result of the event, an interdepartmental working group was formed, which included leading teachers, medical workers, educational scientists, psychologists, theologians, literary critics and public youth in public education on reproductive health and physiology of adolescents, in particular, school teachers, students, these are agreed to conduct a survey among parents, as well as develop programs in close cooperation with their families, taking into account the physiological characteristics of minors.

It was also noted that it is important to organize the training of students from specially selected general education schools in selected general education schools on the basis of a special program developed by specially trained teachers. Based on the analysis of the identified problems and shortcomings, the round table participants developed appropriate proposals and recommendations for the protection of the reproductive health of minors, the inclusion of appropriate training loads on reproductive health and physiology of adolescents in the curricula of educational institutions.
