2022 Nissan Rogue

QUICK TAKE:

  • Best-in-class gas-engine fuel economy1 and standard torque2
  • All-new engine to be assembled at Nissan's powertrain facility in Decherd, Tenn.
  • U.S. manufacturing investment now totals more than $1.23 billion over the past two years to support Nissan NEXT transformation

Nissan introduced an all-new Rogue for the 2021 model year, delivering high quality and customer satisfaction through its strong combination of design, safety and technology. Now for 2022, Nissan is making its best-selling model more powerful, more fuel-efficient and more fun to drive with an all-new, 1.5-liter variable compression (VC) Turbo engine across the Rogue lineup.

Mated with a responsive new transmission, the 2022 Rogue delivers improved power, best-in-class gas-engine fuel economy, most standard torque of any gas engine in its class and more thrilling driving experience. Rogue also maintains the most standard safety technology in its class for 20223.

The new powertrain delivers 201 horsepower and 225 lb-ft of torque - an increase of 11 percent and 24 percent respectively versus the 2021 Rogue. Even with the increased power, the 2022 Rogue's estimated fuel economy is 33 mpg combined, an increase of 3 mpg over the 2021 model.

Nissan Motor Company pioneered the variable compression engine with the introduction of the 2.0-liter VC-Turbo 4-cylinder in the 2019 INFINITI QX50the 2019 Nissan Altima. More than 20 years in development, the VC-Turbo system continuously adjusts its compression ratio to optimize power and efficiency through use of a breakthrough advanced multi-link system.

The advanced VC-Turbo's high/low compression ratio technology creates two different driving profiles - dynamic performance and eco/efficient, each seamlessly available on driver demand. The new powertrain provides strong, confident acceleration from a start, when passing other vehicles or when entering a highway.

VC-Turbo technologies have evolved for the 2022 Rogue's 1.5-liter VC-Turbo 3-cylinder, with a focus on improving performance in three areas: acceleration, fuel economy and emissions. A new high-pressure fuel injection system helps enhance acceleration, as does the stainless mirror-bore cylinder-wall coating. New textured valve lifters reduce friction and improve overall engine efficiency while a vacuum low-pressure die-cast cylinder head improves engine cooling. In addition, the 2022 Rogue features a new engine mounting system that uses two lower torque rods to enhance engine vibration isolation with high torque support.

With a 17 percent wider gear ratio coverage and 32 percent lower friction (than the previous transmission), the new Xtronic transmission also drives better acceleration feel and enhanced fuel economy in the 2022 Rogue.

New transmission technologies include a twin oil pump system and newly developed control valve system. The twin oil pump system combines a small mechanical pump (with small oil flow) for slow shifting between low and high ratios, while the second electric oil pump (with larger oil flow) provides quicker shifting for hard driving situations.

Nissan Z Proto

The new Z is coming. Nissan recently unveiled the Z Proto, signaling the company's intent to launch a new generation of the legendary Z sports car. Shown at an event beamed around the world from the Nissan Pavilion in Yokohama, Japan, the prototype features new design inside and out, as well as an upgraded powertrain with a manual transmission.

Sporting a bright yellow pearlescent paint - a tribute to a popular paint scheme on both the first-generation 240Z and the 300ZX - the Z Proto boasts a fresh, attractive exterior design with a silhouette that communicates respect to the original model.

The shape of the hood and the canted, teardrop-shaped LED headlights are both unmistakable reminders of the original Z. The rectangular grille dimensions are similar to the current model, although the grille fins nod to the past. The form continues to exude both sportiness and elegance.

The link to the original Z is most striking when viewing the Z Proto from the side. The roofline flows from the nose to the squared-off rear to create a distinctive first-generation Z profile whose rear edge was slightly lower than the front fender height giving the Z its unique posture. The signature transition from the rear quarter glass to the low-slung position of the rear tail adds to the effect.

The rear takes inspiration from the 300ZX taillights, reinterpreted for the modern world. Set within a rectangular black section that runs across the rear and wraps around the outer edges, the LED taillights convey a sharp glow.

Lightweight carbon fiber treatments on the side skirts, front lower lip and rear valance ensure nimble performance. 19-inch alloy wheels and dual exhausts complete the Z Proto's striking road presence.

Designed to fit driver and passenger like a glove, the Z Proto's cabin seamlessly blends modern technology with vintage Z touches. The interior design team sought advice from professional motorsports legends to give the Z Proto an ideal sports car cabin, both for road and track.

This can be seen in the Z's instrumentation. All vital information is found in the 12.3-inch digital meter display and arranged to help the driver grasp it at a glance, such as the redline shift point at the twelve o-clock position. Yellow accents are found throughout the cabin, including stitching on the instrument panel. The seats feature special accent piping and layered seat material to create depth.

The Z Proto also packs a powerful punch. Under the elongated hood is an enhanced V6 twin-turbocharged engine mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. As a prototype, work is now underway to synchronize the power with the grace and control that has defined the Z for the past 50 years.

Watch NissanNews.com for updates on the Z Proto as they become available.

  • The 2021 GT-R NISMO remains the ultimate performance super sports car that provides an exhilarating experience for virtually everyone

  • GT-R NISMO's standard 3.8-liter twin turbo V6 is rated at 600 horsepower and 481 lb-ft of torque1
For 2021, enhancements to the Nissan GT-R include expanded availability of the Bayside Blue exterior color, which was previously reserved for the limited production 2020 GT-R Anniversary Edition, for the GT-R Premium model.

The 2021 GT-R Premium model's legendary performance is rooted in a hand-assembled twin-turbo VR38DETT 3.8-liter V6 engine rated at 565 horsepower and 467 lb-ft of torque. A titanium exhaust system is standard. The refined powerplant is backed by an advanced paddle-shifted sequential 6-speed dual clutch transmission, which can be driver selected to shift at race car-like speeds. All 2021 Nissan GT-Rs are built on an exclusive Premium Midship platform, which enables the use of the unique independent rear transaxle ATTESA E-TS all-wheel drive system.

Along with the 2021 GT-R Premium's dynamic exterior styling, the interior includes a front seat designed for enhanced comfort and holding performance, standard leather appointments and NissanConnect®, NissanConnect® Services powered by SiriusXM® (SiriusXM® subscription required, sold separately), Nissan Navigation System and Apple CarPlay®.

The 2021 GT-R NISMO stands apart from the GT-R Premium model with carbon fiber components found throughout the car, including the front and rear bumpers, front fenders, hood, roof, side sill covers, trunk and rear spoiler.

The GT-R NISMO's VR38DETT 3.8-liter twin turbo V6 remains the heart of the GT-R's drivetrain and is rated at 600 horsepower and 481 lb-ft of torque2. Each is handcrafted by its own takumi technician. The GT-R NISMO features an exclusive turbocharger design - direct from the GT-R GT3 race car - with a modified turbine shape and fewer blades (than pre-2020 models).

The car's suspension tuning refines cornering stability, with enhanced yaw rate response and smoother ride quality. The steering features greater linearity and precision than ever, requiring minimal corrections at track speeds of up to 186 mph. The absolute performance theme is also fittingly reflected by the carbon ceramic brake system. The combination of the Brembo carbon ceramic rotors - 16.1 inches up front and 15.3 at the rear - and Brembo calipers significantly improve reaction time, durability and overall stopping performance (versus pre-2020 models).

Inside the cabin, unique to GT-R NISMO are heated, reclining leather-appointed Recaro® seats with red synthetic suede inserts. These ergonomically sculpted seats are designed to focus on holding the shoulder blades and lower body points, giving the driver a better sense of car and body as one. Also unique to the interior of the GT-R NISMO are an Alcantara®-appointed steering wheel, leather-wrapped shift knob with red accents, and the iconic NISMO red tachometer.

This includes Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, Rear Automatic Braking, Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and High Beam Assist. Ariya will also feature Nissan's Intelligent Around View Monitor, Intelligent Forward Collision Warning and other technologies aimed at making the drive easier and more enjoyable.

A human-machine interface lets customers use natural speech to adjust car settings. Over-the-air firmware updates keep the Ariya feeling fresh and exciting. The Ariya also includes Amazon's Alexa to help customers simplify and organize their lives. Ariya will also feature wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto standard to help drivers seamlessly integrate their smartphone into their vehicle experience.

The Ariya's striking looks represent Nissan's new design language, Timeless Japanese Futurism. It is characterized by a distinctive Japanese approach, conveyed in a simple yet powerfully modern way.

Nissan's designers took advantage of the car's new EV platform, which allows for a flat floor, and its compact climate control components to give the Ariya a very spacious cabin. The lounge-like interior, featuring thin profile Zero Gravity seats, provides a welcoming and comfortable environment for driver and passengers alike.

1. Hands-off driving is possible when driving in a single lane, on the condition that the driver remains attentive to the road ahead and is prepared to immediately take manual control of the steering wheel when conditions of the road, traffic and vehicle require it.

2. The hands-off feature is not available in tunnels where a GPS signal cannot be established, on expressways without a physical separation that divides the traffic moving in opposite directions, on winding roads, in tollgate areas or merging lanes. When entering a road section where hands-off driving is not available, the system will alert in advance so the driver can take manual control of vehicle steering.
