NeighborWorks America awards $75.7 million in grants to nonprofits

Grants empower nearly 250 network organizations to drive affordable housing initiatives and neighborhood revitalization projects

Washington, D.C.
- Amid a severe shortage of affordable rental housing units, limited availability of homes for prospective buyers, and rising insurance costs, NeighborWorks America works alongside its network to foster positive change and outcomes for communities across the nation.

Marking its 45th anniversary milestone, NeighborWorks America is awarding $75.7 million in grants to the nearly 250 nonprofits that comprise the NeighborWorks network. This flexible, unrestricted funding is meant to increase access to affordable homes and ensure residents are safe and healthy in thriving communities across the U.S., including the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and on Native lands.

In fiscal year 2023, NeighborWorks and its network leveraged its federal appropriation to yield a direct investment of $9.95 billion in communities, and:

  • Helped 111,600 families and individuals by providing counseling on financial capability, prepurchase, post-purchase or foreclosure issues.
  • Created 16,300 new homeowners.
  • Owned and/or managed 204,600 rental homes.
  • Created and/or maintained 45,240 jobs.
"This over $75.7 million investment across nearly 250 nonprofits reflects our unwavering commitment to make communities stronger," emphasizes Marietta Rodriguez, President & CEO of NeighborWorks America. "Together with the NeighborWorks network, we are working to make affordable, safe, and resilient communities."

In addition to funding, NeighborWorks supports its network's sustainability and resilience through virtual and in-person professional development opportunities including the NeighborWorks Training Institute and organizational assessments. These initiatives enhance and enrich our network organizations and affirm our pledge to building the sector's capacity to nurture enduring change in communities nationwide.
