CDCR Officials Apprehend Man Who Walked Away from a San Diego Reentry Program

SAN DIEGO - California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) officials announced the apprehension today of a person who walked away at approximately 9:12 p.m. last night from the Male Community Reentry Program (MCRP) in San Diego.

At approximately 8:55 a.m., Eric Lewis, 52, was apprehended in San Diego without incident by CDCR's Office of Correctional Safety. He was transported to Richard J. Donovan for reception. His case will be referred to the San Diego District Attorney for possible escape charges.

Lewis was most recently received from San Diego County on May 10, 2023. He was sentenced to three years, eight months for transporting/selling a controlled substance, an offense committed while released on bail, and possessing/owning a firearm by a felon or addict. He was also sentenced to three years for possessing a controlled substance for sale, to be served concurrently. Lewis has been housed at the MCRP in San Diego since Jan. 29, 2024.

Since 1977, 99 percent of all people who have left an adult institution, camp, or community-based program without permission have been apprehended.
