Hillsborough County Declares May as Community Action Month

The Hillsborough County Community Action Board (CAB) has been instrumental in ensuring the proper disbursement of Community Services Block Grants and other sources of funds for programs that provide assistance to residents facing economic distress. Consisting of representatives from the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners and the cities Tampa, Plant City, and Temple Terrace, CAB has worked alongside community members who advocate on behalf of low-income residents, as well as representatives of organizations interested in providing social services.

During its May 18 regular meeting, the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners presented a proclamation to Joey Henderson, chair of the Hillsborough County Community Action Board, declaring May as Community Action Month in Hillsborough County. After thanking the commissioners, Henderson said that CAB is a strong believer in promoting financial self-sufficiency, not dependency.
"As the Community Action Board works hand-in-hand with the committed and capable staff of Hillsborough County… we endeavor to wisely and affectively use the Community Services Block Grant funds to help those in greatest of need to reach self-sufficiency," he said.

The Board also presented a commendation recognizing La Gaceta, the only tri-lingual newspaper in the nation, and its publisher Patrick Manteiga on the occasion of the publication's 100th anniversary.
