Media Statement: Committee Chairperson on Cogta Saddened By Killing Of Collins Chabane Municipality Mayor

Parliament, Friday, 22 July 2022 - The Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Mr Fikile Xasa, is saddened by the killing of the Mayor of Collins Chabane Municipality, Mr Moses Maluleke (56), in Limpopo this morning.

On behalf of the committee, Mr Xasa appealed to law enforcement agencies dealing with the case to leave no stone unturned to find the perpetrators of this gruesome crime. Mr Xasa also appealed to the residents of Collins Chabane Local Municipality to cooperate with law enforcement agencies to ensure the perpetrators are arrested.

Mr Maluleke's death robs his family and friends of his presence and deprives the municipality of a mayor who was committed to improving the lives of its people. "The committee wishes Maluleke family, especially his son who was injured during the alleged robbery, a speedy recovery. We extend our deepest and heartfelt condolences to the family, the council of the municipality, friends and all the people of the Maluleke Local Municipality," said Mr Xasa.

The committee is also appealing to the people of Collins Chabane Local Municipality to provide the Maluleke family with support during this extremely difficult time. "May Mr Maluleke's soul rest in eternal peace."
